Triathlon on next weekend

With just over one week to go before the 26th Barbados National Triathlon on October 4 at the Spring Garden Highway, some 51 triathletes from T&T are entered as compared to 43 Bajans.

One hundred and nine triathletes have entered so far from 12 different countries, in the Olympic and sprint triathlons.

Conditions are currently very hot and humid in Barbados and despite an early start at 6 a.m., triathletes can expect a calm, cool swim but the cycle and run sections will test the very best.

Oein Josiah

Resident running champion Oein Josiah will be up against stiff competition from Trinidad & Tobago over the sprint distance. Youngsters such as Joshua Ho and Matthew Chung will be his main competition, while in the female division Barbados’ Donna Gibbs and Chanda Gooding will be chased by a field of young girls from across the Caribbean.

In the Olympic distance race, Phillip McCatty (Jamaica), Adam Cripwell (Barbados), Darren Treasure (Barbados), and Ian Moore (United Kingdom) are the ones to watch while defending female champion of Barbados, Elisa Whitehouse, should be ready to retain her title after her recent outing at the World Championships in Chicago, USA.

Triathletes planning to enter should note that the deadline to enter is before October 1.
